I bought mine earlier this year, a 2003 GT with 50K. A majority was driven on the highway by the girl who had it before me, she worked at a dealership. Car was very well maintained and is still very strong for the miles, although 50K is not a lot. I don't know about the price, though. You should probably wait and I'm sure you will be able to find a better deal.

it's easy for someone to say all the miles were highway driven.

Yeah but when she drives 90 miles a day and the only thing between her house and work is highway, then I will believe her. My buddy also works at the same dealership, and he wouldn't sell me anything which he knew wasn't up to par. Also, you can tell when you test drive a car if it has been ragged out. I test drove another 2003 with few miles, but the engine was pinging and the acceleration studdered when you hit it, obviously had been abused.

I wonder if people think before they post.

I have a 2000 that now has 137,000 miles on it. To compare, I'd say it had damn close to the same amount of miles on it as that 01 when it was the same age. I changed my oil every 3-5k and 95% of those miles were done in 5th gear (stock) on the highway at 70 mph. I'd bet money that my car and engine are in better shape than many Mustangs with 1/2 the miles. I'll take 110,000 highway miles over 50,000 "beat the **** out of it" miles any day of the week. Here are the repairs done to my car: clutch at 95,000 (which I am convinced I didn't need, but was screwed by the dealership), brakes at 134,000 (pads only), alternator at 135,000 and that's it. At 133,000 I slapped a Vortech on it with a whole bunch of other goodies. I run my car hard when I take it out (at 10 psi). The engine hasn't blown up on me yet. Neither has the tranny and I've been slamming through the gears.

People freak when they see high miles like that, but you have to consider how it was driven. Again, I'd take my highway driven 130+k over a 50k "around towner". That's not to say that the car in question was driven and maintained like mine, but at least ask the question. I also kept all of my maintenance records so someone could see by the date and the mileage that the only way those miless could have been put on there is through highway driving.
I wonder if people think before they post too.

Did you ever take into consideration without receipts there is no proof to how well or poorly the car was maintained? [&:]

My reaction was to the fact that so many people just blindly said "Woah! Too many miles", without considering any other factors. I stand by my reasoning. To blindly reject a car because it has high mileage is a mistake, just like jumping on a car that has "low mileage". I did consider that without receipts there is no proof to how well or poorly the car was maintained, but you'd never even ask the question if you just blindly reject a high mileage car.

Now come line up next to me and I'll show you what this high mileage piece of crap can do!

I wouldn't buy the 110K gt, and I wouldn't buy bicketybam's ride either. the price ain't that good either.
Last time I checked, I wasn't selling.
The idea behind my words were that I wouldn't offer even if you were selling. It was hypothetical.

ok, so there is one high mileage car that bicketybam owns that has a lot of highway miles and not many city miles. bfd. this is one car that is like that. all the other cars with high mileage are more likely to need a rebuild than the same car with half the mileage. all the other crap besides the engine had 100000+ miles on it. very likely to need a lot of **** within a short amount of time. it's not a mistake to blindly reject a car with 100000 miles, bicktybam is just being overly defensive with his blown mustang commuter car.

Ed,

My gears are in! If the shop is on schedule I should be ready to run by the weekend.

I'll give you a buzz so I can bring it by the airport soon.

Take care

Bought my 97 Stang 5spd(all Stock) at 107K miles(2yrs ago). The only thing I had to do to it was at 116K miles the crappy plastic intake cracked-replaced with a PI intake/w aluminum runner), and a couple thousand miles later the TO bearing (clutch was still strong) went out which in turn I had a King Cobra Clutch installed. Other mods below added in between. Car still running strong [sm=gears.gif]. Lemme find some wood to knock on! Oh yeah, my uncle was a cabbie in NY and he had a Grand Marque as his cab and got over 300k miles on his 4.6 before he traded it... Go figure
