hey all have a 98 mustang gt and while coasting around from 20mph to a stop i noticed a vibration.
Can't feel it but the whole dashboard and center console start rattling. Around that time, and about 45-50 mph cruising theres also a high pitched howling noise.
Any ideas? car has 173K and some miles and is an auto if it matters.
Sound like U-joints on the way out?

check the u-joint and pinion

at that many miles, a lot of parts are wore and can be a result of a combination of things. while your under the car check all moving parts for play

Yeah thanks guys, when im off friday ill have to check it out, i know when you put it in reverse when its cold it sounds like the driveshaft is banging off the rear end, just a big old clunk.

Not as bad when its driven and warmed up.

I need front tires as well they are worn on the outside and inside from before i got the alignment so im sure that is making some of the noises i hear.

As far as the mileage i owned the car since new and was never beat on and always had exellent maintance, but hell when we get old we start to fall apart as well.
