Cobra engine swap

Cobra engine swap
I have a 96 GT with a 5 speed manual. The motor has 115k on it and I feel a rebuild/replacement is in order in the future. I thinking of just swapping the engines with a 99+ SOHC or a Cobra motor. If I go with the Cobra route, what will need to be swapped? I know the motor, will I need the ECM or can I reprogram the GT one? Will the tranny bolt up? I plan on renewing the clutch with a better example. And the GT route, will this be the best option? I have a mechanic on hand who will do the work for me, so labor is not a problem. I think the problem will be more on finding the Cobra ECM if I need it.

RE: Cobra engine swap
If you go the cobra route, I recommend trying to get the most complete setup you can find. from intake to oilpan, ECU, header.... as much as you can get.
If you've got to use your current tranny, get a 99 cobra engine since I think it uses the same one. The 01 has a 3650 if i'm not mistaken.
