Default Cam Question

I'm thinking about getting a new cam but before I buy one what are all the parts that would need to get upgraded to handle a performance cam on a stock engine.

Well, first of all you'll need 2 cams since you have a overhead cam motor. Second, what you'll need depends on the cams you're getting.

Okay you need to realize the ptv clearance will be extremely tight with those cams on the stock PI heads. They need to be degreed perfectly, and even then it's cutting it so close, that i would not recommend them personally. You will also need to upgrade the valve springs as well.

You would need to machine the intake valve or notch the pistons. Understand they will clear if degreed, but ask any modular engine builder that knows about cams for these cars, and he'll tell that it's cutting it to close.

if you get the cams done RIGHT you will not have any issue with PTV clearence (ask me how I know )

but other the then actual cams you will need valve springs+retainers to go along with those (any stage 2 cam needs at least springs and retainers).

It is also recommended that you get an adjustable set of cam gears, but you can reuse the stock ones (I did)

Those cams absolutely will fit with no issues if installed and degreed correctly. The problem is that you have to retard them so far in order to make them fit, that you lose a lot of mid-range performance in the process. They are an awesome set of cams for someone willing to have the pistons notched. They DO NOT require new heads.

If pulling the heads and doing some minor modifications such as notching the pistons or replacing/having the intake valves machined is out of the question, then I would advise you to select a cam that will work better for your engine the way it sits now.
