Default 2004 GT noise on acceleration..any thoughts?

2004 4.6L GT; has a noise when accelerating, starts around 2500RPM. goes away when the clutch is pressed, but will return in all gears at the same RPM range. so far, I have checked the driveshaft for rubbing (none), checked the cat heat shields (they seem ok). Any thoughts from you guys?

Thanks,

Dave

Is it a squeal or an inconsistent rub sound? If it is there's a good chance it's your Throw out Bearing. Out of gear while it's making the noise, lightly press in the clutch, if the noise changes, it's your TOB.

just my first thought.

Does it sound like a metal clacking sound? If so, I'd hate to break this to you but it might be a rod bearing =/

Sounds like a throwout bearing.

Park it, let it idle in neutral and see if you can control the sound by pushing the clutch and releasing it. If you can, time to get a new throwout bearing (and clutch while you're at it).

My apologies, I should have also mentioned that it does not make any noise in neutral when I rev up to 2500, either sitting still or coasting.

@mestit3: sounds like it might be coming from the tranny area, but I'm having trouble pinpointing the exact location
