Today when I was getting on it I noticed a fast, almost like flapping sound. It sounded a little bit tinny. The problem is it will only make the noise at >4500 rpms and with a load on the motor. I tried reving it up with my head under the hood and it wouldn't make the noise. I still have 8-9 lbs of boost and the car is running fine, I'm just looking for ideas. My first thought is the packing burnt out of my thrush turbos and it's just exhaust pulses.

Do you have a handheld tuner? Do a pull and datalog it and bring the file to your tuner and have him check it out...

Thanks for the input. I don't have a hand held but I'll try a little octane booster. Also I brought my buddy for a ride the other day and he said he thinks it's in the rear end or u-joints.

If I'm getting detonation should it throw a code or turn the check engine light on?

I tried some octane booster yesterday, the noise is gone. Just to be safe I put in a couple gallons of 110 octane now it smells good too.
