Reputation of the seller, same as anything else--look at the feedback, for a real in-depth look go to this website and type in the seller's user name.

So is there a way to totally eliminate the securilockPATS system on my 01? Cut the wires, remove a module?? I don't know much about it since no one seems to have this same problem. It's keeping my car from starting at random times so that I have to disconnect the battery for a few, then reconnect it & let it sit for 10-15 with the key in before it'll start. If it can't be fixed or disconnected It'll probably be traded off!!

All of the above would make it worse.

You can have it disabled in the tune. Some handhelds and entry level PC based tuning systems let you do this yourself...

I bought a blank on ebay for $8 and had it cut to match my original at Walmart for like $1. All I had to do to program it is start the car with the original key and then start it again with the new key. Btw mine is a 97 if that makes a difference.

It does make a difference as '96 through '97 had PATS type A, '98 type B, and '99 through '04 type C.

Here are the two user level key programming procedures for PATS A, B and C

Type A PATS uses procedure #5, requiring just one programmed key; B and C use #6 which requires 2 already programmed keys...

Well kind of

Ive read of people taking the one key that works,Take the key and make copies of it with a non PATS type key (like a FORD original blank) or what ever will work at your local autoparts stores or walmart.

Then take the one PATS key and install it under your plastics on steering column near PATS transmitter on ignition so it reads it.
Now PATS system sees key all the time now being able to start your car with non PATS keys you have cut for a few dollars.

Only thing is it disable thief system all the time. but you could have a after market alarm installed or kill switch if your neighborhood sucks.

Just my 2
