4 10 s would be a perfect gear. dont matter what gear you go with ( 3 73 or 4 10 ) the install price would still be the same. you have a auto, 4 10 s would be the better choise.

Enough with the 3.73 BS debate. 4.10s and call white fox or go home

You're gonna be sorry...I had 3.73's in my car before I had the S/C and it just wasn't enough. I put the 4.10's in and I was finally satisfied. There is not a big enough diff in gas mileage if that's your biggest worry..

It really depends upon what you want/expect from the gear change.
Some guys want maximum performance at any cost while other guys may not be willing to make quite as many concessions to get a little more performance.

OP needs to make an honest assessment of what he wants/needs the car to do for him. It is only thru an honest assessment that he can avoid buyer's remorse.

If gas prices go up to $5 per gallon, anyone who DD their car 40+ miles per day are not likely to be happy with 4.10 gears.

Wish there was a guy around here that could install gears for cheap and do a quality job. I had a guy install them on my old dakota for $150 and they whined. I should have stopped him when he almost forgot to install the pinion shims, and then didn't know for sure what pinion depth to set, and just guessed. He even installed the pinion nut with an impact wrench, which I read later was a big no-no. Needless to say he won't be touching any of my vehicles again.

I know i'll make some enemy's from this comment but who cares...
Why do ppl w/ gear upgrades let alone modded mustangs complain about gas mileage???
There is a shop that converts all cars to hybrids. its in upland, ca Hybrid Motors. give em a call. now ppl can install 4.30's and get 27+mpg. horay.....

Just bc ppl mod their cars that doesnt mean all of them dont mind 5mpg lets be real now if gas was still like 89 cents a gallon like it was when i 1st started started driving then ppl could care less. Fast and daily drivable without dumping gas is possible and not a stupid request to have. So some ppl do care about the mileage they get and some dont. Different stokes!!!

Yup, some guys are using the Mustang as a DD and high fuel costs are undesireable. Everything is a matter of compromises, and to some of us we don't intend to spend outrageous amounts of income on fuel. Therefore, some balance between performance and practicality needs to be struck.

My Mustang is right on the edge of my tolerance for poor fuel economy (~20-22mpg). After I graduate and get a decent job again, my tolerance will probably change a little.

My GT is my DD, i avg 15-17 mpg have 3.73's but i have a lead foot. Sure gas in Southern California is expensive, but u will never hear me complain about what i drive.
A Great all around gear would have to be 3.90's theyre smack in the middle
Gears wind up being one of the most rewarding mods so choose wisely.
Whatever decision u make stand by it and don't go crying about it later.

I dont think anyone is crying about their vehivle or the mileage the point kinda got lost somewhere for some reason. The high gas doesnt bother me as much bc its my only payment towards the stang besides insurance that doesnt make me or anyone in that situation wish they were getting 5mpg or so on their stang lets be real now.
