Rebuilding a 2001 4.6
#4
It really depends what you have already and what your plans are with the car. Obviously crank, rods, pistons. You could always put stock h/c/i back on the car...but then whats the point in rebuilding a motor? Keep in mind all of the little crap will add up too (arp hardware, all gaskets, oil pump, 2000 rod bolts, you should do all new timing components, depending on how much power you will need upgraded fuel....)really just need a lot more info

I'm not new to motors I have a jeep that I put a 350 in and buit it up a little but I have not been in one of these motors before. But I was looking at a top end kit on summit that had heads and cams and everything but I know while I'm doing it I need to do something to the bottom end to and I would not mind doing a stroker and I want to build it up to eventually forced induction. O and by the way I have about 135k miles on my car.

stroking means that you use a different crank to increase the actual engine displacement (cubic inches/liters). this is caused by the piston having to move farther up and down (because of the crank).
in the case of a 4.6 mustang, the typical thing to do is to "stroke" it to a 5.0. piston size remains the same (unless you overbore).
more displacement = more horsepower.
