Default 1998 GT engine and transmission swap

Could i swap my 1998 gt engine and transmission for a 2004 engine and transmission with no special modifications?

I'm sorry...I just have a lot of questions and I'm tired of always messing up and having to pay for all my mistakes. I'm also tired of everyone making fun of me for buying a mustang and saying they're worthless and slow. So I come here where I could talk mustang with someone else. I want to make my car faster and just would really appreciate any form of advice.

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this one, but in a way those people are right, our cars (I have a 98 as well) are pretty slow.....when they are stock. The 4.6 is VERY expensive to mod, though it seems they respond VERY well too boost for such small V8's.

I don't know Cali's emissions standards, but other than money they are going to be your second largest limiting factor.
