Would 10w40 ease piston slap?

Piston slap occurs when the piston skirt wears and the piston rocks back and forth about the wrist pin as it travels up and down--"slapping" the cylinder walls.
It is caused by far too infrequent oil changes; once the the anti-wear additives have completely broken down the piston skirt is one of the high load areas that takes the biggest hit.
Heavier oil may quiet it, also one of the "mechanic in a can" products like STP oil treatment. The good news is that it can occur for a long time before the engine dies--I had a 1973 Jeepster that slapped so badly you could hear coming from 1/2 mile away, drove it over 100k miles sounding like that.

I have a step-daughter that changes the oil in her diesel VW Passat two quarts at a time, when the oil light come on...

I change my oil every 2500 miles, and have been doing that on every car we have owned for the last 40+ years--we regularly drive them to 250k+ miles, the record is an '89 Celica GT my wife had, 350k miles when we traded it in...

Its such a shame, the car is near flawless, I fixed a couple of small flaws but I love the car, never liked green but it is the electric green metallic, which they only made 2800 for this year, and who knows how many of that number were convertables, Im actually considering buying a rebuilt motor and keeping the car indefintely.., anyone have good or bad expereinces to share.

At my age I am hoping my '03 GT can be the last car I own. I keep it garaged and am now putting very few miles on it as the Suzuki Burgman 400 I bought a few months back is so damned convenient--it will hit 100 mph too...

I HAD A 650 Burgmann, sold it last year, only because I have 2 kids...ive had almost 20 bikes and that was my absolute favorite! Great bike, fast, smooth, easy to rid, great storage, great mileage!!
