how to rebuild front calipers
Hey guys I scored me a set of cobra front brakes for my gt and I noticed that one of the dust boots for one of the pistons has been ripped and the others look like they are dry rotted. So my question is have any of you rebuilt your calipers before. I have watched a couple of vids on youtube and it looks relatively easy but thought I would ask first. The local shop qouted me over $200 to rebuild them which is ridiculous.
plus while I have them apart im going to powder coat them.

I used to work for a brake shop and we would rebuild the calipers by putting paper towels in-between the piston and where the brakes would go. You then, using an air compressor, blow air into the bleeder valve which will pop, and I do mean pop the piston out. Once you do this, you can hone the inside of the caliper and replace the rubbers inside and out. Then push the piston back in, install and bleed.
Oh and like BraMas said, don't forget to put clean brake fluid on the ring before installing the piston back in.
Its pretty easy and cheap too.

My other question is im going to upgrade my brake fluid to at least a dot4. how much fluid does it take to replace all the old fluid. the Motul dot4 fluid is $20 for 17oz and I was hoping it wouldn't take more than 2 bottles.
I will probably do a full writeup on the whole process.
