Default Thinking of running boost, and need help to prevent a 4.6L Bombshell! What do I need?

Ok so I have the stock 2V 4.6L v8 in the stang. Now, I have been debating between a rebuild and supercharger, or to build a 5.4 Navi motor and running twin turbos... Due to my sudden financial change I will have to go with the cheaper method of supercharging the stock motor, instead of building $20,000 5.4 race motor.

I have been looking at the Kenne Bell 2.6L twin screw supercharger, with intercooler kit. Now I am aware that the stock 2V motor can only take so much power before it becomes a bomb, but I am not sure were the marker lies. The particular kit with 14# boost makes over 500 rwhp which seems a bit much for the 4.6 but I'm not fully sure; which is why I'm posting this.
Here's the kit: http://www.kennebell.net/KBWebsite/S...4.6(96-04).htm

Can the stock motor take this kind of abuse? What kind of work needs to be done to make it run safely with this much boost? About how much will that cost?

I have already upgraded my suspension, axles and am waiting on the brakes at the moment, so the chase should take the power. I may also throw in some cams, maybe PI heads, a new clutch/flywheel, and the necessary accessories to go with the supercharger like injectors, spark plugs etc.

--Any input? Recommendations? What do I need to make my motor take the power? Thanks!

420rwhp is basically the safe mark. It depends on the torque and amount of boost as well. Just get a good tune and you should be set to go.

I have been running a V2 set up on 8 pounds for almost 25,000 miles and not one issue. This is my DD and I am in boost more then not. I am not over 400rwhp, but a good tune and keeping it at it's safe spot you should have no issues.

My power #'s are in my sig with 8 lbs of boost on a vortech v2. I'm planning on intercooling and bumping the boost to 10. Hoping to hit 450 to the wheels (I also need bigger injectors my 38s ran out at 5800 rpm's). My tunner say they have put a lot of stock 4.6s up to 450-470 hp with real good results, but they don't ever recommend going over 475hp on a stock bottom end.

Whos your tunner, and how did you find them? I have done all my current work by myself; very few power upgrades though. I could install the supercharger myself but I don't think my handheld can tune for it... Thanks Also Good luck with the intercooler and 10 psi!

Like said keep it reasonable (some will say 400rwhp, others 450rwhp...thats your call). Just get some sort of cooler, a reputable tuner, and dont get greedy with boost and you will enjoy it for some time. When the time comes you can beef your 2v up to handle some nice power

I use Hitech up in Elk River, MN. I'm lucky because I only live 15 min from them. They have a nice shop and seem to really know there stuff.
