Default Aftermarket or Stock?

That is the question. I put my engine in today and smashed the clutch cable where it goes into the firewall and now the pedal has about 4 inches of mushy free-ish play that cannot be adjusted out.

Therefor, I am declaring the clutch cable FUBAR.

Now that you have the background story....I have read in other threads that MOST say the aftermarket cables are crap, and few say they are good. I'm going to see what Tousley Ford wants for a stock replacement here in a little bit.

That being said, has anyone had any good luck with any of the aftermarkets available? If not, I'll just look for another stocker.

- If you have not had an aftermarket clutch cable for more than a couple thousand miles or 6 months WITHOUT failure your opinion doesn't mean much. (Well, doesn't mean as much) -

I put a ATP (formerly Dorman) cable from AutoZone on my '03 nearly a year ago, because I needed a cable now...I was and am very pleased with its quality and construction, as close the the OEM cable as any I have seen...

I have had the Maximum Motorsports Cable since I bought the car in June and it had been in the car since the guy put a new clutch in about a year before I got it. So far I have had no issues what so ever.

I went this route for the sake of saving shipping time. We'll see how it goes.

Once again, I found it to be well constructed, and of competent quality--it's popular conventional wisdom to criticize the quality of FLAPS products, but one has to ask "If what they sell is such crap, how is it so many of them have been in business for 30 to 35 years--offering lifetime warranties?"

Very true Cliff, you are quite a wise person. You have yet to be wrong about anything you have posted, and thus have my respect.

I looked at the cable out of the bag and it looks of similar construction to the OEM.
