Clutch oddness
So I just test drove the 99 Mustang GT I'm lookin at pickin up and am wondering if the clutch petal is supposed to start to engage as soon as you start to let it out or does it travel a lot and quickly engage in like the last 2 inches of travel? It was hooking up strong I'm just curious if its supposed to act like that?

Normally a fresh clutch will start to grab right when you start letting it out. One thats toast will start to grab when it's almost all the way out. Now this is just a rule of thumb as if adjusters were added the person can adjust the clutch to their preference.

It is most likely the cable is too loose, there should be only 1 to 1-1/4" free play in the pedal--here's is a good write-up on using the stock semi-automatic adjuster, and a manual tweak that can further improve the clutch pedal feel...

That was some interesting info on the stock adjustable clutch adjuster I'll definitely have to play with that once I get whatever stang I get. (probably the one I've been looking at provided someone doesn't come along and snag it and my mechanic says nothings wrong with it)

So the current owner of the mustang I'm lookin at says the only mod hes ever done to the car was swap the plastic manifold to a metal OEM replacement. As far as he knows the clutch is still the original one from the factory. It has about 108K miles, so how long do most new edge clutches last? Provided someone didn't know what the hell they were doing?

It depends largely on how and where to car was driven--obviously the more the clutch is used, especially the more standing starts, the faster it will wear. 108k miles of 200 miles trips on the Interstate is different from 108k miles around town in stop and go traffic.
All that said, it would not surprise me to find that a 13 year old car with 108k miles on it could use a new clutch...
