High Mileage Help
My 04 gt has 221,000 miles on it. That said I bought it with 216,000 needing a intake manifold. I have replaced the manifold and was wondering if there might be anything else I should keep an eye on with that high of mileage. The car is very clean and looks like only has 100,000 miles. Has anyone had experience with a mustang with mileage like mine?
my odo is right up there wit ya, theres actually a little less on the motor its self, but long story. Just keep up with the reg maintenance and you'll be golden. Theres a thread on here and the car has 600k on the clock. Might be a good idea to get the timing chains checked/done. Think those are suppose to be changed at 100k.
Here is the maintenance schedule from the 2003 shop manual; you will find that unlike rubber timing belts there is no specified service interval for the 4.6L timing chains. With the oil kept clean timing chain life of 300k miles or more would not be unusual.
OP--if you have not done so since you purchased the car I would suggest flushing and changing every fluid in the car, especially the engine coolant, power steering and brake fluids (I say especially, as these are the fluids most often never changed). And of course the tranny and rear-end.

The rear end fluid was changed just before I bought it and I flushed the radiator when I changed the intake. Surprisingly this thing runs excellent for a car with 221,000+ miles. I just raced my brother in laws 05 350z with 33,000 miles and beat him 4 out of 4 times. Im ready to take it to the track in march!
Cool...
My wife and I regularly run our cars out to 250k+, a couple of records were her '89 Celica that had 285k when we traded it in on a '96 RAV4 with 135k on it. The RAV 4 (at 215k) went for her current '03 Highlander that had 90k when we bought it, 154k now.
I had an early '86 Corolla (one of the last RWD models) that we ran to 330k, it's replacement, a '94 Corolla wagon had 185k when I got my '90 Miata with 181k. I ran that to 285k (the fellow that bought it, and his son, headed out from here to the Tail of the Dragon and back to Saint Pete) and got a '92 with 135k.
I got my '03 GT in December of '06 with 30k miles--"newest" car I've owned in years. It's got 135k now and at my age is probably the last car I'll own...
