Default Battery Light

Hey, I have a 2003 GT and at times when i'm driving the battery light will come on for like 2 mins and then just go off. Sometimes it doesn't go on at all when im driving. I got my alternator tested and it was fine. What is it? Nothing?

lol i mnot sure.

when i went to my mechanic he tested something, may just have been alternator. I thought the light actually didn't indicate a new batterry being needed?

The lamp comes on when the system voltage drops below 13V with the engine running. This could be a wiring problem:
  • the heavy black/orange charging lead from the generator to the battery;
  • the heavy ground wire from the battery to the block, just aft of the oil filter;
  • one or both terminals at the battery;

Or a problem with the battery or generator (I realise you said the generator had been tested--it may nonetheless be defective depending on what tests were performed).

Here are some documents from the shop manual that will help you sort things out:

Charging system component tests procedure;

Charging system diagnostic procedures;

Charging system wiring diagram;
