Default 5.0 on a 1999 chassis

i currently own an 89 carbed 5.0 5 speed and i picked up a 99 v6 stang for a very low price. the motor is extremely in good condition but tranny is messed up. 2nd gear grinds and pops out, so i'm getting that overhauled to z specs. but i was thinking of just ditching the 89 5.0 project and dumping that motor and tranny onto the 99 stang. i want to know what your opinions are. pros and cons of doing this.

i am very mechanically inclined so the swap will be a weekend job. start friday and finish by sunday.

i don't know if this is the proper tech/forum section to post this in.

i will be changing the tail end of the 1999 T5 tranny and putting it on the 89 t5 cuz of the speed sensor.

Waste of time. The old 5.0L doesn't make that much more than the current V6 you have.
Factor in the trouble of swapping K members, rewiring the entire car, swapping fuel systems, swapping dash clusters. You'd need a 94/95 GT donor car to get all the odds and ends parts you'll find to put it together.

Also, it's against Federal EPA regs to put an older motor into a newer model car. Not that you'd get caught in most places, but in TX you'll never pass the yearly inspection.

+1 and full agreement with everything he said. Waste of time and money. If you want to fix up the V6 '99 into a V8, look for a '99+ modular V8 to swap in, along with all the other things from a 99-04 Mustang (wiring harnesses, cluster, etc, etc.). Also, even if your county doesn't have the emissions inspections (mine does!), you will soon. The good news is that as a '99 model, it's OBD2, so as long as you can keep the computer happy, you'll pass emissions.
