Yes a 12 bolt is a gm rear and its pretty much just as crappy as a gm 10 bolt, ive eaten through probly a dozen of them in my life time. Yes the 8.8 is a bolt in with the proper control arms, the IRS was designed on a chasis set up for a 4 link SRA, take a picture because youll never hear me say this again, I'd rather run an IRS than a 12 bolt chevy..........thats why all the big dragger GMS have a ford 9 inch, and for the real mullet riders in hardcore denial theyll go with a dana 60.

Mines not hurt at all ,, my boss let me pull the car in one day when we wasn't busy and I raised it up on a lift and used the motorcraft undercoating and ended up getting 2 good coats on everything , so that IRS looks still like new and coated

if you do the swap go with a 94-98 sra not a 99-04 the 94-98 is the exact same length as a irs were the 99-04 is a little wider so you would be better off with the shorter one

It is a true bolt in. No fabrication required.

For your purposes (street/strip) you should definitely go with a quality set of upper & lower control arms to help you HOOK.

This package is ideal:
