Default fabricated a grill for my mustang

Hey guys I need some advice, Instead of buying a grill for my mustang I decided to make it my self for the experience and to save money. I was wondering if I could paint it my self with black spray paint, and clear coat, which I can do a great job, or Am I better of just to get it powder coated to stop it from chipping sence it's in the front of the car where all the bugs and stuff will hit? and also what do you guys think so far? thanks

I would Powder Coat it. Or if you wanted to see how it would look black paint it with some spray on Plasti Dip that way if you do not like it you just peel it off. I painted the front of my VW over a year ago with Plasti dip and none of it has peeled up yet from bugs hitting it.
Where in MI are you because if your close to Holland I can PC it for you
And your work looks great I just hate those type of grills on the Mustang just my .02

I'm from Buchanan, you are probably like an little over a hour away. But yeah it turned out great, it looked good when I put it on car with the raxiom headlights I put on this summer, but I'm carious what it will look like when it's painted. But I do agree what you are saying about the grill, but Alot of people always comment on putting one on, so since my car was parked for the winter, I was bored and thought I would practice some frabricating.

The best combo I've found so far is Duplicolor wheel paint and clear coat. I've used it on a few exterior items including my grill emblem and the mach 1 delete surround and it holds up great. Even my diff cover which I painted about 3 years ago and it still looks freshly painted.

a good spray paint job goes a long way, especially with clear coat.

If you want something thats going to hold up. use VHT ROLLBAR PAINT. That stuff is when dries is extremely extremely hard. I used it on my roll bar, and I drop the buckles to my 3" crow harnesses over the back of the seat and they smack it, been this way for over a year, and there are NO scratches. Stuff is also nice and light when it comes out of the can, where Ive always seen wheel paint is real thick and heavy. The rollbar paint there is no need to primer either, its all in one. cool stuff

+1 on the PlastiDip. Try it out, if you don't like it you can always peel it off. It's like magic, absolutely great stuff.
