Default need help with rear end

i know very little about differentials and axles. i've got a 96 gt with an auto. all i know is that i've got the 8.8" diff. what's the difference between a lsd or posi? what's the impact it'll have on a mildly modified stang? how many splines does the axle have(28 or 31)? is upgrading the differential worth the money? thanks in advance.

You have the limited slip with 28 spline axles. The posi is like a live axle; both wheels turn at the same time all the time. If you make a turn, the outside tire will protest vocally. Or is it the inside tire? I forget. Unless it's a track car, you don't need the posi. If you drive in winter, you don't want it, either.

If you're planning on pushing over 400 hp, or do a lot of track runs, new axles would be a good idea. Of course, with 400+ on tap, you'll need other improvements anyway.

Hope this helps
