Advice for those lookin into headers
When choosing headers, I would highly recommend they get some sort of jet hot coating or are ceramic coated. Either that or make sure none of your a/c lines will be in contact with the passenger side header. I just learned this while racing down the highway against an LT1 Z28. After we decided to slow down, I looked in my rearview and saw tons of smoke. Scared the holy hell out of me, as I had just had put this engine in [&:]. I pulled over and noticed it was a little oily on the passenger side, and smelled like plastic burning. It wasn't til a couple hours later when I decided to use the a/c, that I realized what had happened. For those who have had this happen, how much did it cost to replace?
Never had it happen, but youll just need a new hose and freon charge. A/C repair isnt cheap. I know that for a fact because thats what I do. I would say around 400 easily for that fix. Anyway, are you running shorties or longtubes. Im thinking about going with mac ceramic shorties. You think its worth it?
Yeah I have shorties. I would definitely get ceramic, and to be safe make sure the a/c isn't touching. I like the shorties, they aren't going to give you a seat of the pants type increase, but they sound nice. Plus around here emissions is getting to be a pain. That way if I have to, I will go back to the catted midpipe. The other day I saw an emissions monitor on the on-ramp. I'm not to sure what's going on there, though.
i have bbk shorties, before the new engine was dropped in the ac lines were zip tied out of the way. no problems yet. as for emmision, up here you automatically pass until next year. but they still hook you up to the computer for some stupid reason. like i got a green light, and i have melted rear o2s. the new system is such a waste of money.
