Well, the 2000's have a huge load of TSB's, I looked through just the Engine ones to try to find one similar to this one ( https://mustangforums.com/recalls-an..._03256/TSB.htm ) for my 2004. There is probably a TSB for the tick for your year, you may want to bring that up with the Ford guys.

The dealership called this morning - they didn't change the lifters because now they seem to think I need a new head on the passenger side. They said I could drive the car and it wouldn't mess anything up internally. This noise seems to be a mystery to everyone. Who knows. I still may have someone replace the lifters since that was the initial thought of what was wrong. If anyone has any thoughts or had this happen, please let me know.
Did they do a decarbonization on the engine first? A lot of time there is carbon buildup in the cumbustion chamber and valves. This can cause symptoms like spark knock and engine ping. Does one or both of your tailpipes have black soot on the tip(s)? If so then I'd start there (decarbonization). Carbon causes hotspots in the firing chamber and since the carbon heats up faster than the surrounding block, it would cause more problems during warm up and under heavy acceleration than at idle or cruising.

I have a sticky valve in the passenger side cylinder head - Ford says. They say that the ticking noise during certain rpms is matching a problem they had in the past with the 4.6 motor. I bought a pair of cylinder heads and the gasket kit - now looking for a shop to put them in. I would feel more comfortable with a shop specializing in Ford motors, but they seem to be few and far between. If anyone knows of any Ford performance shops in the DC area, please let me know.
