OK I'm super confused with my 2000 gt right now. In the middle of installing my new edelbrock water pump and I got the wrong one. I ordered and received the long style water pump my 2000 calls for. Well it is way to long. I measured my old pump and it is the same as the short style from a mid 01-04.

Now I'm confused as I installed some steeda underdrives for a 96-mid 01 like my 2000 called for. They went on fine no issues. So how do they work with with the short pump?

I crawled underneath and looked on the drivers side above the oil pan for a casting number to see if it was a 2000 engine as with this car I wouldn't be surprised if it had a motor swapped at some point. Now it is super crusty but I could tell the 2nd character in the number was a 0. That is the right spot in the casting number to tell the last digit of the year right?

So I'm gonna exchange the long style one for a short and run with it. Just curious why it has a short pump on it but the underdrives for a 96-01 fit and work fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

I was thinking the long style was the earlier cars but might be wrong. Either way the long or short pump can work on any 4.6 mustang. With that said, you have to use the correct water pump pulley for that style pump.
