Which cam followers and lash adjusters to buy for a 2V 4.6?
Hi all.. I'm helping a little old lady by fixing her stock 4.6 in a 2002 Grand Marquis with 90k miles (this is a 2V motor, AFAIK). I'm posting here because I came across this forum in my research of her problem (a moderate to loud "tapping" noise coming from underneath the passenger side valve cover, as verified with my stethoscope). Specifically, this topic: https://mustangforums.com/forum/4-6l...placement.html Also the Grand Marquis/Towncar/CrownVic forums aren't nearly as active.
I have no reason to believe this is an issue in the combustion chamber, as I've followed the advice in Ford's TSB to kill the injectors for each cylinder and see if the problem goes away, and it doesn't. Most likely this is going to be a lash adjuster or a cam follower or two. I'm about 30 minutes away from having enough stuff moved out of the way, to be able to pull the valve cover. I'm wondering which brand of lash adjusters and cam followers I should be getting, given the choice of Melling, DNJ or Sealed Power. I have local availability on the Melling parts, and they seem to be priced right, but I'd prefer to wait if the Mellings are going to fall apart in 30,000 miles. I'd like this repair to last.. any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!
