Default Transponder key

I just picked up a 2004 Mustang GT and got a transponder key on line. The hardware stores will not cut it since it was not purchased at their store. I understand it. Where else can I get it cut? Thanks in advance. Ed.

Youll need to take to a ford dealer and have them cut it and program the pats to recognize it.

I have the two original keys and it explains in the manual how to program a transponder key. I just thought I could save some money by not taking it to a Ford dealer to have it cut and programmed.

ok I did a little digging and it appears as though , if you have 2 working keys you can program the key youself. You may want to call a lock smith that can cut the key for you . A dealer may cut it for you also.

I cant for the life of me figure out why the hardware store would turn down your business , but try some others. Like I said though a lock smith may be your best choice for it.

Thanks for your feedback. Called the local Ford dealer and he quoted $20. Went to the locksmith like you suggested and cost me $2, $1 each side of cut. I programmed it and works great!
