96 gt tune question

96 gt tune question
Just picked up a 96 gt convertible and trying to get it to idle right. I have a very limited history on the car so I am trying to piece together what might be done to it. It has a cai , X pipe and flowmasters no cats. Changed the plugs yesterday and the old ones were black telling me its rich as hell, put new ones in and changed the wires and coils to msd. It runs much better but wont idle right it jumps from idle to about 2500rpm as soon as you move the throttle then idles down in about 30 seconds. replaced the iac and cleaned the throttle body no change. Wondering if the car had a tune in it and maybe other mods, and the owner who did them pulled it out when he sold the car? Does one particular tuner let you see what tune is in the car or if it is altered from the stock tune? (New to the tune world, kind of an old school type guy) Thanks

Search this form, starting with MAP Sensor, EGR, 02 sensors, manifold leak, vacuum leak, tps all of these items can cause idling problems. Don't have a lot of experience with tuning
But i do know you can always return to a factor tune
Good luck

WJL, thanks for the reply, pretty sure its gonna be the manifold, the guy just had one of his buddy`s put a manifold gasket on it and he did a pretty sketchy job on it so thinking that might be it, the only weird thing is it will only idle somewhat right with the iac disconnected, and it has a new iac on it so its good. I was wondering with the tune, if it had a tune in it could I go back to the factory tune with out knowing what brand it was, or will the computer always default to the factory setting?

Again i don't have a lot of experience with tuning, but i think there is only one programming language, so any hand held tuner can make changes. I think you have to have a program with the information on it that you would download to the car. (so having the so called tune is the key thing) Again my understanding is the tunes are just changing settings such as timing, shift points on automatics, fan temps and a lot of other things that can effect performance, etc.
