4v swap questions
i have a 1996 mustang gt. has a 2v in it with 177k on it and a freshly rebuilt t45 behind it. the t45 has less than 5k miles on it. i know my engine has seen better days. so i was wanting to do a 4v dohc swap. i know ill need to get my hands on one to rebuild. looking to make around 400hp with it. heres my questions.
-will a t45 with a good clutch hold this power?
-if i were to need to go with a tr3650 would i need a new driveshaft for length purposes?
-will i need a new ecu for a 4v or will my stocker work?
-suggestions on how to make roughly 400hp with a 4v?
i am open to all suggestions. im new to the mustang world so im trying to learn while doing this. if anyone has done a swap like this before and knows exactly what is needed im all ears. thanks guys!!!

1) T-45 will be fine at that power level.
2) Not sure, but leaning toward "no".
3) Assuming you're talking an earlier 4V like from '96-'98 Cobra or Mark8, your pcm will run it. You'll need a little tuning and delete the IMRC's. For a later 4V like '03/'04 Cobra you will need the matching pcm as well.
4) Supercharger is probably the most cost efficient route.
Go check out the Motor Swaps subforum here, there's a very detailed writeup on installing an early 4V engine that should give you a pretty good idea of what you're getting into.

JethroF250,
I just swapped a 4v DOHC into my 96 GT Vert from a 97 Mark VIII. Got it running and now working on the exhaust system. Sucks that I only get to work it every other weekend cause of my job. Mine is an auto tranny and I bought some used BBK long tube headers for it. Installed the engine with tranny and headers attached from the top, opposed to dropping the K member. Such a pain that if I had to do it again I would probably try dropping the K. I used my SOHC 4.6 wire harness and PCM. Hit me up if you've got questions. I'm no pro and not totally finished yet, but I may be able to answer questions.
