Default sound like a clutch or synchros?

Hello ~
97 GT 5 speed here. I've had it over a month and now I've gotten down how the trans likes to be driven (I was used to a 5 speed on a ford explorer)... but I still have some turbulence. When it's cold, it wants to clunk 2nd and 3rd gear, not quite grind. When it's warm, not much of that.

Now when It's warmed up and I go to wail on it (I don't do it to a cold engine) and go to shift from first to second, if I go at like 5 grand or so it will grind 2nd.... other than that it's pretty quiet.

Does it sound like a clutch problem or a synchronizer problem? When the clutch is let out all the way it grabs and does not slip.... thanks all

George

PS. I do not plan to heavily modify it in the future or at all, and come spring if it is deemed synchros I will pull the trans at home and take it to my manual tranny class i plan to take and rebuild it with fresh synchros and seals (and throw in a stage I centerforcE)

Your synchros will last even without, you just won't be able to powershift the gears, you'll have to take it easy on it. Synchromesh will help but it won't solve the problem.

oh definitely I'm just looking for something temporary to hold me over until I do the repair. I will either do it in class or buy a book and do it in my driveway with the knowledge from class. Under normal conditions it shifts fine. I appreciate everyone's input!

What would a basic rebuild kit cost? Synchronizers and seals? and where would be the best place to get it? Thanks!!

thanks! Although I have no money now, it appears as if that seller has those on ebay a lot. I've seen them about three times. Lets just hope they still have them when I go to buy.

Thank you!

George

G.D. Money! Always plenty places to spend it! Never of it to go around.... maybe I should just go buy one of those money trees and plant it in my back yard? :P

haven't got a clue myself, I have heard from other mustang owners that it's not that bad. I think it's just taking all the gears and parts out in a particular order and putting them back in (with the new replacements) in the exact same order....

I'm gonna take a trans rebuilding class (manual) come spring and bring mine in there to do it.... I'm gonna go get a book on it...
