Really depends on how strong you need the tranny to be and how you plan to drive it.
You need to make sure what you get is strong enough for the HP you plan to make. Is the 6 speed 1 overdrive or 2? I have a 6 speed (2 overdrives) I only use 6th when going 70 mph for more than a few miles.

Theres really no need for it. The 6 speed has 2 overdrives. 5 and 6 are both overdrives. With a 5 speed it's only 5th gear.

If you are looking to do it for soley purpose of have 6 gears or some better mileage, it's not worth it.

But it'll handle loads more HP than the 3650..

Agreed. If you order directly from Tremec, you should be able to specify what gears you want in it. The 3650, however, can still take quite a bit of abuse which is why they used it for machs, 01 cobras and 05 GTs so it may not be worth it. It really comes down to the kind of torque you're putting out. Viper numbers would call for a Viper Tranny (T-56).
