Advice on replacement headlights
I recently purchased a 1996 GT Convertible. The stock headlights suck! Probably a direct replacement of the stock light would be an improvement over 22 year old ones in the car, but I figured if I am going to replace, why not add some new tech. Looking at the aftermarket suppliers (CJ, American Muscle, LMR) there are lots of options, but also seem to be a lot of comments about dubious quality, poor fit, adding silicone for sealing, etc.). I am looking for advice from folks that have gone down this path. I would like to improve the lighting function. If I modernize the styling a bit, that's fine, but not my primary goal. OEM lights had fluted lenses, and corner/marker lamp was a separate fitment. Now I have options for clear lens, projector style, halo lights, one-piece design, Cobra style lights, etc. I guess one of the benefits of having a car that is so popular for aftermarket modifications, but also makes the choice more difficult. What have you used, and how has it worked for you?

I dicked around with headlights on my 02 for quite a while trying to get better night vision. I have the factory smoked headlights and at night it felt like I was driving with two firefly's strapped to the hood. I went ahead and bought the mac-daddy top of the line Sylvania bulbs, (the model # escapes me) and that made all the difference in the world.

I also have the factory smoked headlights on my 2003 GT. I replaced the bulbs which were Sylvania Basic (original? car has low miles) with Sylvania ExtraVision and it's been a big improvement. Before it was like the OP says, I could hardly see. Now it's like any vehicle I've driven with good lighting. They don't blind oncoming drivers either, one of my considerations in choosing them. I got mine at Wal*Mart. I'm totally satisfied with them.
