Default Programmer or Professional Tune

On the other forum I'm in, I asked the same question and 90% of the feedback was to get a professional tune, even though I do not plan on doing any internals on this car. The only things I'm going to be doing to the car coming up are 4:10's, Lowering Kit, and LT's. There's no way I'll be pushing over 310 at the crank with this car, so should I save the extra money and get the programmer, which would also be more convenient, or get a pro dyno tune?

I would love to but I don't have the money for any internals for this car...But my next car I'm gonna go all out on. What would be best for this one though? I'm not doing anything drastic, just all the bolt ons and ****...

You can get a dyno tune with a programmer, just find out what tuning software (SCT for instance) your favorite dyno shop uses and get a flash tuner from the same manufacturer.

My question is if you get a professional custom dyno tune can they reflash your vehicle without having to buy the programmer.I have a feeling I'm going to be told you need to buy a custom chip and if so you might as well buy the programmer instead, but it's all about learning and paying once.

unless you plan on going with a supercharger or something, just get a mail order tune.

You must buy either a chip or flash tuner, but it does not have to be from the shop that does the tune. For custom tuning, programmer options for xx9gt6xx are essentially limited to the SCT XCal 2, while '99-'04 V8 models can use either the Diablo Predator or SCT XCal 2, and possibly a few other makes I am not familiar with.
