Default Question about Personal Installs

I dont know if its just me, but i think one of the best things about modding my car is putting the mods on myself. Everything thats done to my car is put on by me..exhaust, clutch, rebuilt my tranny, intake, new springs, stereo, all that stuff..but then i read on here and it seems like 4 out of every 5 people take there stuff to a shop to be put on. Im just wondering why most people dont install on there own..

Because "most" everyone is mechanically inclined. And if they are, they don't necessarily have the tools, equipment, space to do mechanical work.

You are correct, doing mods yourself is always going to be better than paying someone else to install them, provided you have the correct tools, knowledge, and TIME to do so. You mention rebuilding your transmission; my car for instance is used as a daily driver and could not be taken out of service for the amount of time it would require for me to do that sort of job. Also, working under a car is a much different animal when it's on a lift as opposed to laying under it in a driveway.

Yes I have rebuilt several engines myself, and even did a successful rear gear change myself. It took some investment in tools and has always been worthwhile, but I would not recommend it for everybody.

not everybody has the tools to do it. plus, i'd rather have a professional install bigger mods. intake, shifter, exhaust.. that kind of stuff i'll do. supercharger? i'd rather have the pros do it.
