If it is the starter, then with a friend listening and watching under the hood, it should be easily pin pointed. I think it is your clutch. After it is idling, when you depress the clutch pedal, does it make any noise? Also, does it make the noise only if the clutch pedal is depressed to the floor? If you depress the pedal just the the disengagment point (not to the floor) and try to start it, does it do the same?
