whats the difference in the crown vic 4.6 and stang?
what is the difference between the 2 motors? i was thinking of buying the crown vic motor (2002) and parting it out. are the heads the same? is the motor worth 900 if its only got 30k on it. is there any intrest in someone buying the heads since they are PI?

$900 is a good deal. They go for $1500 or so with that mileage & accs.
The motor is the same. There a few minor differences:
Plenum will need to be flipped 180 degrees as the air intake is on the passenger side on the Mustang but the driver's side on the Crown Victoria. Switching the upper plenum also means that the IAT Sensor, Mass Airflow, TPS, & IAC will not reach the Crown Vic harness. So make sure you use the Mustang harness.
The swap is easy...you may need to use the Mustang alternator bracket depending on whether the Crown Vic motor has the 160amp or 130. Luckily you will have the revised intake, so coolant leaks won't be a problem from that area.
Those are your biggest changes...everything else is a piece of cake. There a few other differences. Oil filler cap is on the driver's side valve cover instead of passenger like Mustang. EGR tube is different due to the fact that it ties into the plenum as well so you will need to use your Mustang EGR pipe. The Crown Vic has a fuel rail bracket/guard installed to prevent possible explosion if engine is pushed into the firewall in the event of an accident. This bracket can be discarded...was installed for Police cars mainly.
Easy swap though! Same motor as the Mustang. Modular 4.6 is the same on all vehicles (F-150, Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, Mustang, etc.) Yes...they are the PI heads. The Crown Vic 4.6 claims 239 hp while the Mustang claims 260. The difference comes from PCM programming & exhaust.
