Default Seat Belt Issue - Now What?

Ok, my lovely belt minder is constantly going off for the first 5 minutes of my drive.

I tried the 3-flash-3-1 disable dance to get it to stop. Naturally, it failed to do so because it doesn't recognize the buckling of the belt.

At the suggestion of everyone and common sense, I went to unplug the wire this morning. Guess what? It had already been cut. Hmmm, logic and other people's experience state that this should remedy the belt minder's happy hello but it has not.

It's a 2000 GT.

My next step would be to track down the other side of that wire and splice the two together. Unfortunately, I can't see anything from under the front seat and I haven't had the time to pretzel myself into the back seat to peek at it from the rear floor. Other than finding the other part of the wire and splicing the two back together, can anyone else think of something?

Is the driver seat hard to remove? It's a power seat so I don't know if it's going to be a pain or not...

Thanks,

Kevin

Hmm...to make the seat belt minder go off what should you do. HMMMMMMMM. Maybe, put on the seatbelt? That's your best and easiest option, but to make it go away for good, look in your owners manual under belt minder.

Thanks for the help.

1. The seat belt is always worn.

2. As stated, I've tried the procedure used to disable the belt minder. Since the procedure requires the buckling of the belt 7 different times and it's not recognizing this action, it is useless in solving my problem. Probably due to #3 below.

3. Before anyone suggests cutting the wire, it has already been done but the belt minder is still functioning.

P.S. I'm sorry I forgot to mention that this is happening with the seat belt buckled. I had to start a new thread because responses like the previous one are what got the first thread locked. I am wearing the seatbelt. The belt minder is still dinging. I checked the cable as mentioned by others but it is cut. I need alternatives other than the one I can come up with. Thanks.

Umm i believe there is probably a fuse in the box that you can take out that will disable it. However I have no idea which one.

You know, that was something I thought about but worried that there might be other items on that circuit that I may want to work.

Does anyone know which fuse that works off of and what else is on that circuit?

Wow a lot of help he was. The seat has 4 nuts, 2 behind those black covers in the back and 2 right under the front of the seat at the end of the rails. Theres one connector under the seat. Easiest to get to if you already have the seat unbolted. Just unplug that and pull the seat out. The fact that it doesn't go off plugged in or not and you found a cut wire. I'm gonna say that's what's wrong. If you can find the other end, hook them back up when it's plugged in now it should go away. If not, something else is obviouslly wrong. But go from there. Anyways, it's easy to take the seat out

Thanks Brandon!

I think I'll pull the seat this weekend and see what's going on down under.

I was actually able to find the other side of the cable without pulling the seat. When I brought it up for review in the daylight, I made two important discoveries:

1) It's not a single wire, it's two wires in one casing.

2) Both wires' ends were exposed and touching.

I seperated the exposed wires and tested. No more ding-ding!

Now, I will have to pull the seat so that I can clean up the hack job the previous owner did and reconnect the wires to the seat belt buckle and make it look half-way decent.

If anyone has a cut wire and still hears the belt minder, please check the wires on the thinking end of the apparatus and make sure they are not exposed/connected.
