Don't switch to the Corvette family. I heard from a reliable source that the 2007 Cobra with a pulley swap, exhaust, and a tune has 638rwhp!!! Come on and that thing is ssoooo sexy. I'd get one, but there is a little problem called financing, but if you can afford the Z06 then you can afford the Cobra.
He'll probably still get one. But good point.... you could buy an 07 gt500 for way less than a C6 ZO6. A new ZO6 goes for what, 80k? I heard the new Gt500 should be around 45k. Think of spending the difference in parts...thats 35 thousand in parts you could buy, and destroy most cars with it!!
I would definately rather have the GT500, I don't even care which one is faster. Id just rather have the GT500 Cobra over a Corvette. Corvettes have this old person stigma with them in my mind, don't get me wrong I would love a Z06, I would just rather have the GT500 Cobra that's all. Either way he goes, he is getting one hell of a badass car! I think its mostly just my Ford vs Chevy bias, I like Ford better. hehe And if I'm not mistake the new Cobra is live axle in the back(YAY!), whereas the Z06 somehow has a Transaxle in the back....which completely confuses me since I was under the impression inorder to be a "transaxle" the axles must come directly out of the tranny. In order for that to be possible the tranny would have to be in the back of the car, yet somehow the engine is still in the front of the car? WEIRD! Anyway....Live Axle > IRS!! Good luck with whatever you get Code!
They say around 45k, but it will be like when the 05's first came out with the 10k dealer fee's and like the GT's. I saw a GT and the sticker price was 150k, but with the dealer fees it was 181k! Wouldn't pay that even if I had the money on sheer principle.

And I know I'm biased and I will give credit where credit is due but for the money you can't beat Cobras IMO.
agreed, but thats a straight up super-car. I believe Ford went back to the live axle do to the fact that what do most mustang owners do with thier car? Autocross, or drag race?? Not having that IRS in the back should make a difference in the price. Ford has all ways prided them selves on my production of affordable sportscars. Unfortunately I believe the current CEO of ford is Henry Fords great grand daughter, and she hates sports cars.

). it still has a roots blower so i doubt any pulley swap with make that much power. anyway 638 is an exact #, no two cars act the same so if you want to speculate at least go with a 600+ figure.....but i will wait and see when it comes out. you should do the same. i am a ford guy, but seriously look at a new z06 and then a gt500....8/10 people would go with the vettes looks (exterior anyway). then there's the weight, handling, na power etc. the new z06 is not meant to be compared with a gt500...more porsche, viper, ford gt, and other exotics
