theoretically, yes it will limit your possible top speed, but it more than likely wont limit the top speed your car is capable of. If you had enough power to redline 4th gear in your car, then yes 4.10s would put a top speed restriction on you. However since your car lacks the power to redline your top gear, you probably won't see any less in top speed, in fact, I have heard some people say that it can add to the top speed of the 96-98 mustangs because it shifts your powerband. One thing gears will put a restriction on however, is your highway gas mileage. If you plan on doing a lot of highway/freeway driving, you might want to consider high gears, possibly 3.73 or so. I know that for me, I couldnt get gears because my girlfriend lives 15 miles away from me, and I go to pick her up quite often. So until she gets her liscense and can drive herself, I am going to be keeping my stock gears. However on the other hand, if you plan on doing mostly city driving with lots of stop and go traffic, then gears will probably improve your mileage because your car's torque is being better utilized to get the heavy car moving. So I guess when you choose what mod/mods to do with your car it depends on what you really want whether it be looks/performance/sound/whatever. I suggest finding mods to make it your own, and you will find that mod-fever is very fun thing to catch.

RE: 700$-800$
Well if gas is cheap and you dont do much highway driving, I would definitely go for it. The thing that will cost you quite a bit is the install. Around here they quoted me $800-900 parts and labor. It might be cheaper where you're from, or if you know a person that can do it for cheap/free it would be even better. And unless you plan on adding a lot of torque (i.e. supercharger/turbo) there really is no other disadvantage of 4.10. Even if you do eventually go with some forced induction, you could just get taller tires to balance things out. Anyways, hope I helped bro. Peace

RE: 700$-800$
I was charged just over 200 for my gear install (I bought the gear seperataly)... I got my tuner from brenspeed.com for my '04.. I know you can use it on your 98.. sctflast.com claims 15whp, and 20 lb of tor... I can't say whether or not that's what it gave me but the power change was definatly noticable... You can also get something from Diablo... im not familiar with the Diablo products seeing how I have a SCT Xcalibrator... but good luck..
