Default Driving with CEL on...

So I have decided my next two mods are going to be a MAC O/R Pro-Chamber and a Diablo Tuner (that comes with 4.10s). I am currently a little short on the money to purchase both of them though. My question is: would it be safe to drive around without cats or miles for a month or 2 while I save up the last couple hundred bucks for my tuner? If it will hurt my gas mileage or cause any damage, I wont do it. Anybody have any input?

I am under the impression it will hurt the gas mileage because the car will run too rich. If you can't wait have you thought about just spending $50 for MIL eliminators? I talked a local guy into selling me a MAC O/R X-pipe with Steeda MIL eliminators for just less than $150 total. Not the deal of a lifetime, but I'm happy with the price.

Edit- I have heard from several people MIL eliminators go bad, but I plan on getting a Predator tuner next, so if they last about a month I will be happy I was able to drive with my X-Pipe on for that month, rather then have it sitting in the garage.

I guess I can be patient and just wait, or possibly borrow money from my parents. Tuner + Midpipe = $715. I currently have $600. So I guess I can just wait... Wont take me that long to get the money. I just kinda caught mod fever with my first mod.

Yeah,

I had my OR X-pipe put on at a local miami shop. Normally I work on the car myself, but I'm a bit Clusterphobic and I don't like exhaust work and I wanted so dynomax mufflers installed anyway.

The guy I got the X-pipe from (truBendz.com) also sold me the MIL's, ($35)

His shipping guy screwed up and only sent me one MIL so I did not have the MIL's on. Trubendz corrected that and I got the other MIL just a day later.

The mustang ran fine for about 4 days, then the CEL went on.

I ran about a 30 mile round trip with the light on and I reallty burned a lot of gas! Also you could tell in the work parking garage the car was running rich it was gassin' everyone out.

Perhaps newer mustangs have smarter computer programming, but in my case, the car was running rich.

The MILs I bought needed to be spliced in to the O2 sensors...

It looks like you have to spend more to get ones that don't require splicing.

I'm very new to mustangs but chevys and many other cars i've worked on use the catalytic o2 sensors for the sole purpose of testing for catalytic function. They do NOT affect the air/fuel mixture of the car and the ECM does not use it to make any kind of timing or other engine operation decisions; that's what the manifold or h-pipe o2 sensors are for.

You probabily smelled gas in the exhaust because you took off the catalytic converters, not because you're missing o2 simulators. The simulators simply 'simulate' a working catalytic system.

Buy the tuner and then turn off the rear 02 sensors.. You don't need mil's that way.

I am gonna buy a tuner (as the orignial post stated), I just dont have the money saved up right now to get both of them. I was just wondering if there was any danger driving with the CEL on for a month or too...
