I agree that the 302 is a better model for build up but for daily drivers who want simple bolt ons, the 4.6 is the model to go with

Not when it comes to hitting 300RWHP without spending 4,500 to do it.

What are your mods and what is done to the 89?

Technically, the 5.0 is a much much better base to use for a buildup than the 4.6
+1, but only when we are talking major mods. A 4.6 will still take a 5.0 if both are fully bolted on. but give them cams and a port job and the 5.0 takes it hands down.[sm=hail.gif]

The 4.6 is technically a superior design, as its OHC and DOHC heads are much better than those on the conventional pushrod 302. I think that this more than compensates for the 21c.i. difference in stock form. On the other hand, a 302 is much simpler to work on and modify, and parts are cheaper and more plentiful.

But in stock form a 99+ GT will own the pre-99 variety any day, any time. And that's a fact, jack...

The 5.0 is a better motor hands down for power gains, maybe not base bolt ons, but once you start digging into the motor thats when the 4.6 begins to fall behind.
