ORIGINAL: SVTBillId rather be working with 8 cylinders too, much more potential and more reliable...I just got back from looking at some Gts, looks like its going to be a while before i find that special someone...haha. How much did you guys pay for yours, if you dont mind me asking? How is it that the 4.6 v8 can only stand 8psi safely when the stupid little 4 cyls can run @ like 20 and still be fine...? They do it and they dont care its not safe or something? Thanks.
I can't answer for the v8's but the 4 cylinders I have had with turbo's can indeed take 20psi in most cases. The Chrysler Conquests of the late 80's had a motor that was actually a fork lift motor and had a bullit proof bottom end. The Talons can take the boost also and are amazingly quick as they have heads with runners much larger than a 4.6 has. Ported they can flow 300cfm easily. Even though they are not forged from the factory they are designed for boost so I would think they are beefed some.
Remember that a bar is 14.7 psi. A NA motor relies on the vacuum the motor creates when the piston drops down, along with the 14.7 lbs. of pressure that is outside.
Roughly each 4psi adds 25% to the existing power. So at 20psi power is increased by over 125%. On a stock 4.6 that would add 325HP, crank HP of course. A 4 cylinder Talon would be brought to 400crank at best with the supporting mods.
The most important thing to remember is to have enough fuel available and most motors are safe if the rods are strong enough.
With a well set up Talon a wideband o2 meter and EGT gauges along with a knock sensor and o2 voltage gauge among others are used to minitor the goings on in the motor. mark
Damn sweet99, you is one smart cracker. Nice having another smart mind here. I didnt know that, and was also kinda wondering about why imports could handle more boost.

How safe is the juice? I herd it's not all that expencive for a ls1 but, I don't know about for a stang.
Juice, with a good tune, and respecting the limits of a non built stock motor is very safe.

Here's the issue, the Mach 1's and GT's share the same rods. They give out around 450RWHP. Not really reliable above 400 regardless, but 450 seems to be the magic number for sure oil pan punctures.

Since you plan on buying a GT or Mach 1 and just supercharging it, & if you have no future aspirations of buying a forged rotating assembly, save your beans & get the GT. They will make similar numbers supercharged because of the stock internals limitations & you will benefit nothing from the Mach 1 other than a much better resale value.

my Honda Prelude with the H22A4 DOHC VTEC would only be able to handle 9psi as a daily driver, anid probably not more than 11psieven if driven only on the track. Nissan has some good blocks for boosting, but a N/A import 4-banger running 20psi just doesnt happen. but a built block in an import. wowzers, if i built my h22 i could do 45psi ALL DAY no problems

MACH 1
yeah this thread is real old but if a mach 1 can onky habdle whata gt can there would be no point in buying a mach1 unless your going for 500+ = built motor.

Sounds like u are looking for more performance, hence the Mach 1. Heck every other car on the round is running high 14's now a days and alot of bargain performance cars are in the low to mid 14's. Man, its a war out there and if you want to sperate yourself from many other new <30k cars out there, get the mach. The gt can be made fast but it will need a blower to run with bolt on machs. Most used machs are already modded and are 12 sec cars, gt's will probably be in the 13's, but who knows. Which ever u buy, give it a thorough look over and try to get as many "already done" mods as possible for a decent price. Good luck.
