i would not do a 5.4, the problem with the 2V 4.6 is its hard enuf to get air in and now trying to get more air in is a even larger probem. i am taking out my 5.4 soon and goingto what i should have done in the first place... 4V 4.6
Well that is why I am using boost to aid me with that problem. You can always pick up a set of 4v heads and intake too, if you wanted to stay n/a. It wouldn't be that hard to do.

that you could, but 4V heads will not fit under there using the stock motor mounts you will have to lower the motor like 2" and use a dry sump oiling system

Won't fit under where? If there means hood I'm not sure why it wouldn't. Maybe not a stock hood but you can get a cowl. My intake is actually about the same as the 4.6 right now and it clears the stock hood no problem. I can't see there being a huge problem using a 4v set up.

I looked into this also. The 2v 4.6 heads will fit on the 5.4 block. I have heard somewhere that the 5.4 block is basically the same as our block including size. I don't see why long tubes wouldn't fit either? I was going to get a 5.4 block, forged pistons, p&p my heads, blower cams, and a blower. I was also thinking about getting a 5.0 forged stroker kit for my 4.6 block. All this will be done when I am out of school and making money lol.

Id listen to darkhorse, he was one of the first ppl I know of to do the swap, its not logical, not cost-effecient, and is just a waste of money, unless your fighting for that 8-9 second pass in the quarter...

Youre thinking about one extremely dumbass setup, unless done properly, with lots of money.

i'd put w/e money your thinkning of investing towards a 4v, or a supercharger, both 5.4 and 4.6 are limited to 450ish...

btw you wouldnt last very long pushing 350 rwhp and a 100 shot of nitrous on that 5.4 unless you did get a forged assembly

My real problem with 5.4 swaps is it doesn't really get you that far.

As stated, your still looking at the problem of a weak shortblock setup until you pay to have it forged. Once you do, the differnce, even N/A, of the two (5.4 vs 4.6) with the 2v heads isn't that great of a difference, so its all about how much boost/nitrous you can make it swallow, and that really depends on the strength of the shortblock... which pound for pound (forged vs forged) are once again limtied to about the same amount.

You can easily make 550+ on a very simple FI/shortblock/boltons/cammed setup in a 4.6L...how much do you want?

I can see the 5.4 being worth it in an all out max build, but unless your building a VERY expensive track only setup whats the point?

I really wish you knew what you were talking about before you made a dumbass post. It actually doesn't take a lot of money for the swap and you say "unless done properly". How are you planning on doing it wrong? You take your 4.6 out and put a 5.4 in. It's about as straight forward as it gets. You actually proved my point within your post. You said "both are limited to 450ish", you're are correct so why would I bother switching to a 4v if I'm going to be at that point anyways. I can make enough power to blow up everything on my car before I need to worth about a 4v swap. There is no difference between this arguement and the rest of the guys on here with 4.6 2v's saying you don't need 4v's to make power. The only difference is you will have a better power band then the 4.6 guys.
