Default Gears gone wrong

SO I thought If I had a buddy help me put my 4.10s in would be cheaper then taking it somewhere but I was way wrong. We got everything out and put back together and nothing was going together right. We had to hammer the differential in. I just said screw it and payed 117$ to have the car loaded and towed to mcracing who said they could do it for 300 without parts. I got a call today and they said a bearing was ruined and that it would take a little longer. Inthe long run, it was 400 something with new gears, new bearing and the install. DO NOT MESS WITH DIFFERENTIALS IF YOU NEVER HAVE BEFORE!
this will save you 117 dollars as well as assurance that it will be right the first time

Ya all the tools int he world wont making it any easyer. THen again we had the car on tiny jackstands so we couldnt really see what we were doing anyway. YOu have to know how to get the proper crush on the bearings and teh seal. Never again will I touch a rearend or tranny.

In my experience, manual gearboxes are easy as can be, rearends are pretty easy and auto trannys are a headache. My first gearbox and rearend rebuilds weren't too tough at all.

I think I'm still recovering from the first (and only) auto trans rebuild tho.

I did mine in my garage on jack stands, but I had a friend that has done gears before and I was mainly there to help.

it would of been a lil easier if you dropped the axle out, and did have to get on your back and work on it, just some words of wisdom for future ref.

A lift is even better.

Not to rubit in, but the Chrysler 8-3/4 rear (in my Chally) is a piece of cake. You pull the pumpkin out as a chunk and then just build it on the bench and stab it back in.

Took my dad 6 hours to put in his 3:55's in the Roadster. Luckily, my 4:10's were preinstalled when I bought the car, so I didn't have to mess with anything.

lifts are def nice, but hard to come by, im doing minein twoweekends, which is always fun, its the one thing you want to learn how to do so in the future you dont have to pay someonemore then the gears cost to get them installed!!
