Default Reverse Grind.

Alright well when i bought my car and went to back it out of the driveway i went to go put it in reverse and it grinded. I know how to drive a stick and have the pedal was all the way to the floor blah blah. So the guy who i bought it from came out and said i have to wait for the rpms to drop to about 500 cus of the synchros ford puts in their trannies. Its a 5spd and the tranny is brand new(not rebuilt) with about 1000miles on it. Do other peoples mustangs do this?

Thanks for any help in advance guys!

Its true... I dont have a t45 anymore, but when I did it was the same way. Although, it's not the RPMs. The RPMS can really be anywhere. Its the rear wheels that need to be stopped or close to it. Dont 'roll' and try and put it in reverse.

Which is exactly what i was thinking.. reverse doesnt have a synchro, your right. I know you cant go into reverse while rolling but it just seems odd that Ford would make trannies like that where it becomes a hassle to get into reverse and grinds so easily. I mean hell i had a 95 probe gt before this and reverse was gay in thatcar but not as troublesome as this.Although putting it in 5th then going to reverse(stopped of course)seems to help.

And if you havent noticed, this car is my intro into the Mustang world so im slowly learning about these cars too.. haha

I've found the 5th or even 4th to Reverse usually works, but you're right, it is a PITA...1st and 2ndcan be grumpy, but usually when it's cold.

Mine does that too.. I just gota '00 GT Convertible, and unless I'm in the garage just starting up, and the clutch hasn't been released since startup, it will grind if I go straight back to reverse. When I'm out and about, I have trained myself to go 5th to Reverse, and that solves my problem. Glad to hear it's nothing abnormal.

I dont remember if my old '90 5-speed did it or not..

I just put it in 1st and then reverse and it works fine. It became a habit and I don't really notice doing it anymore.
