i wanted to get some gears. i dunno what i have in right now...i saw earlier someone mention that u actually get to use 5th gear in normal city driving...which i DO actually use 5th gear in normal city driving. so i guess i have 4.10 gears? or atleast close to it? i ultimate goal is to have my car run E.T.'s of 11's so should i go with 3.73 or 4.10's?

Well when I was talking about 5th, I could go into it but the RPM's would be barley 1k, all I can say is to look on the cover of your rearend and it should have some letters and umbers at the sayin 2.93 or 3.32 something like that but that might mean nothing if they were changed in the past, 3.73's are easier to drive when boosted I would imagine, but I'm going to stick w/ the 4.10's. Also alot of people complain about running out of gear w/ the 4.10's in the 1/4, meaining they hit 5th too quick, but that can be solved with alarger wheel diameter, there's a website floating around here w/ the wheel and gear calculations.

Alright guys, I think this might help some of us to visualize things. At normal cruising speeds, here's the approximate difference in RPM between gear sets:

3.27:1-- Stock

3.55:1 -- +175 RPM over stock

3.73:1 -- +300 RPM over stock

3.90:1 -- +400 RPM over stock

4.10:1 -- +525 RPM over stock

4.30:1 -- +650 RPM over stock

These aren't really exact, but will give you a pretty good idea.

I am so happy I went with 4.10 gears. MPG going to North Carolina was 25-26 MPG highway with 5 speed tremec 3650. This is an overall round trip average that I checked at each and every fill up. I could not believe the results and double checked the math each time, but I in fact got 25-26 MPG and was running 65-75 MPH average. IN town I get about 18-20 depending on how much stopping and starting I am doing. And yes 1st gear is still very useful. People don't real;ize that the 1st gear on a tremec is 2.87:1 ratio as compared to the 3.35:1 first gear ratio on the T45.
Both the 45 and the 3650 were/are made by tremec, and both of them have virtually identical 1st gear ratios. Unless you are refering (aka you have installed) a TKO 600 you do not have the 2.87 first gear ratio.

T-45:

T-3650:

The 600 is the only trans that has a 2.87. In any case, the entire BS about 4.10s making 1st useless is just that... BS. The only way it is useless is if your running stock style tires and get no traction.. but its not the gears fault, its your tires/driving!
Thank you...lol i had to think about that for a sec. When I switched from the t45 to the 3650 my 1st gear felt identical. The only difference is the 5th gear which is a helluva lot better for my 4.10. 4.10 FTW!
