Just have someone paint them like I did. It's not thatdark at all... And they can make it lighter or darker for your liking. Here's mine. I've never been pulled over and It's clearly visible in the day light. Hotrodders have been using black paint mixed with clear as far back as I can remember.

I was in the same boat with the tail light tint so instead I bought a set of decals that just apply over the lens and can be taken off anytime. With the sequential tail lights they look good.
