Bustin out cats
ORIGINAL: mustangman5089
The best way to do this is to cut the cats off, take a pry bar and a hammer and chisel all the honeycomb out of there, then weld a straight pipe inside it and put them back on, so it looks like you have cats but its just the shell. If you hollow them out and don't put a straight pipe in their it will sound like crap. I did it on my tbird and didn't weld a straight pipe inside so it resonated inside the hollow cat and it sounded like garbage.

You can to bust that **** out of there, I have done it before om my truck, the mustangs mid pipe has some curves in it so shoving something down into it to hammer on will be a little more difficult but can be done and it will run better!
cleanest and safest way to do it is take the midpipe off, cut a door on the top of the cats off so its not visible from the bottom, remove all the catalyst material and use an air gun to blow any left over small residue out, then weld the door back on the cat. this way there is no possible way to mess up anything like alignment issue wen welding cats or pipes back on, and 2 you wont be able to see the welds from the bottom
