I just bought a SCT XCal2 with a tune from VMPTuning. I have a 2001 GT with just the JLT Ram Air Intake but I got it mainly to turn off the MIL indicator for when I put on my MAC Prochamber and CatBack. That and to give my car a little more "giddyup"

I am on my second tank of 93 octane so I figured it would be in the system enough to load my 93 octane tune. I do have more pep in the car but when I get on it, I am getting some pinging. It pings when I am at higher RPMs (4k+) or if I'm going 30 MPH in 3rd gear and give it some gas (basically floor it). Normal acceleration and cruising is fine.

Any thoughts out there as to what may be wrong? I figured I can rule out an exhaust leak since I haven't changed that yet and since it wasn't happening before I loaded the tune. The gas is from Exxon so I think it's good gas. The spark plugs are only about 2 weeks old and when I replaced them, the old ones looked fine. I'm not really sure what else to look for...

 

I'd say your timing is too far advance at higher rpm's for the gas you have! You can turn down the timing for each rpms range I believe. Your timing should be least above 4k rpms!

97Targa: Does that still apply if it happens at the lower RPMs like I mentioned with the 30 MPH in 3rd gear and flooring it? It's low RPM for that.
