I think my car has a 195 thermo and my guage sometimes goes a little over half. Would it hurt if i go with a 180 or so? Also would this help cool the tranny anymore since there are trans lines running to the radiator?

 

I wouldn't go any cooler than 180. The 180 isn't going to hurt, and it isn't really going to help much either. That being said, my car does run noticeable cooler on the gauge, but doesn't seem to run any better. I can't answer your question about cooling the tranny tho as I have a manual. I would think the effects on the transmission would be minimal at best.
