was at the track this weekend and my friend got called out by a built chevelle bracket racer this weekend. No questions asked just looked under the hood and said were going to run, let me know when you are ready. Right after the run the guy just loaded it up on the trailer and went home. Guess the Chevelle owner thought the previous 13's were on the bottle.

+1, I mean, a full bolton, gear, cammed 2v with the right tires will hit 12's. So really when you think about it, thats movin for a 281 c.i.d. motor. Try to get a little chevy 283 to go 12's. My buddy has a 65 chevelle with a 283 with intake, carb, exhaust, and it wont even power brake....so considering what we have to work with I think our little 2vs move pretty good...
Exactly. And 12s on a 281 2v is very respectable. I really dont think the power of a PI 2v is really that bad. look how much of a slug those chevy 305s were in the camaros

260/281 = .925hp/ci 2V mustang @crank 300/281=1.068ftlbtq/ci 2V mustang at crank. Thats not bad, if you could truly find what an ls1 puts out at the crank and im not talkin advertised hp(315 HA!) and the hearsay of 350! so at the most 350/350 = 1.0 hp/ci LS1 @ crank and 350/350 ftlbtw/ci LS1 @ crank, so all in all, they are pretty equal power for power

another of these?

they dont get alot of respect because a ls1 bird/maro stock will crush it, and with a few mods can easily hit 400hp. they are all put in teh same category cuz they were considered the lower end v8 sports cars at the time.

prices:
base GT at the time of the ls1 bird/maro was about 23-24g if i remember right.
base Z28 (cheapest of all the ls1 cars) was about 28grand.

4 grand in the mustang will have a car thats faster than thez28 and looks much nicer IMO (i dont mind the maro/bird externally) but they are hideous on the inside.

as i recall looking at the dealer at the time - a z28 was close to 32k and an ss 38-42 dependant upon those dumb options they had... but they didnt discount

as to where the GT was stickered at like 24-28 with options, but you could buy an an optioned out vert around 22-23k... i was offered 22,500 and almost bought it... but i got a better deal used and the cobras were around 35-42 coupe/vert and options - chevy loses this one IMO.

also why does everybody think that a 2v cant make power - thats dumb, its just a different head... with some FI and mods... you can make a 2v faster than 90% of people on here would have the ***** to even start.. much less flog down a 1/4 mile...

Whats to compare besides both being cars of the same genre...
My fully loaded vert cost me $22k in 96 and a Z28 (which i looked at first) was $27k for the T-top and $28K for the vert...with the price difference between the mustang and camaro/firebirds we could easily hang with them if comparing $$$$ for $$$$...they stopped making them because they were expensive and made like crap...even the mighty LS engines couldn't save them.

my little 281 has held up great over the years as has the rest of the car. I doubt i would still be as happy with the Z28 and probably would not even still have it...if i bought it instead of my vert.
